Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description:
You will be a major contributor on cross-functional development teams that will be creating innovative concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) products. Working with other manufacturing and development engineers, you will develop new assembly & test tooling and deploy them into volume manufacturing. You will be deeply involved in the production and test processes, as well as in design for manufacturability. You will join a talented, creative, and fun team that aims to rapidly scale our unique technology and make a positive impact.
Responsibilities to include:
- Assist with assembly, documentation, and deployment of prototype builds
- Develop manufacturing processes, assembly & test equipment, and specifications
- Design & perform experiments to evaluate alternative manufacturing technologies
- Manage vendors to deliver equipment on time and to spec
- Develop outside partners & transfer manufacturing to domestic & international factories
Experience and Qualifications (required unless otherwise noted):
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent in the Physical Sciences
- A true passion for making things real in high volume
- Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude. You like to make, break, and fix things
- An eagerness to learn more about manufacturing processes & tools
- Excellent skills with Solidworks or other 3D solid modeling package. You should be able to create complex designs & assemblies from scratch, in your sleep.
- 2-5 years experience designing manufacturing equipment, and getting that equipment running in high-volume production. You like to design things that make (or test) things
- Experience with motion control, pneumatic logic, material handling, adhesive dispense, and machine vision are pluses, as is experience in integrating the equipment with manufacturing processes
- 2-5 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience with assembly processes
- Experience driving/participating in releasing new products into volume production a plus
- Excellent documentation and written skills with fluency in Microsoft Office products. Experience in creating manufacturing documentation a big plus
- Experience with LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, and other instrument control languages a big plus
